Background
The Australian Government has been incrementally expanding its powers to retain more biometric data of Australian citizens. They have recently announced that they plan to use images from state drivers licenses and map these with other personal biometric information. The new system doesn’t require legislation to come into effect - that is, it doesn’t need to be voted on in Parliament. It can simply be enacted as an arrangement between agencies. “Australians have no legal right to privacy and no right to be told if their data has been breached.” The plans are vague and do not guarantee security of Information. Let your voice be heard and contact your Federal MP and request more information about data retention and privacy of your biometric data.
